Do professional painters use blue painter's tape when cutting in or is that just mainly for the inexperienced?

i don't know what these guys are talking about. im a professional painter and all the other professional painters (chicago painters union) i know always use tape. wether it's blue, yellow, green, white, tape is necessary to achieve professional results. however, when painting a wall, professionals will only use tape on the baseboards or in really tight spaces. we always cut in the ceiling by hand as well as around the doors/windows. blue painters tape works well on painted trim. regular white masking tape will work just fine on wood trim but make sure you remove it as soon as you finsih or it will stick. delicate surface tape is good for taping over painted surfaces such as stripes on a wall. it takes practice to cut in a wall to ceiling but you can get very neat, clean lines with a little practice. if you're a novice, a good method is to paint the walls complete and overlap a tiny bit onto the cieling. after it has dried a few hours or so, use delicate surface tape and only tack down the edge at the corner of the ceiling onto the wall with your finger tip. make sure its sealed tight. then come back in with a brush in the ceiling color and touch up the wall paint on the ceiling. remove tape while still somewhat wet, very slowly. takes lots of time but an inexperienced homeowner can get straight lines this way. hope this helps.
