I'm thinking of getting a projector to use as my TV, with games consoles etc, but I was wondering if it would work on my red walls.

  1. The projector will work, but colors will be displayed inaccurately.  For example, white would look red or pink.

For video games, ideal background is white matte.  For movies, a gray matte screen.

You can go with the poor man setup and go with white bed sheets or butcher paper.  You can also spend $100 and buy a cheap projection screen.

  2. I project  on a very light beige wall, and the colors are fantastic, especially in HD.  Red would not be very good.

  3. You will loose color balance and a whole lot of brightness. The degree to which CB is lost depends on how deep a red it is but since you are calling it red and not pink I assume it is deep enough that no amount of tweaking will correct it. Red is one of the primary colors and so absorbs the other primary colors according to how deep it is (that is in fact why you see red). So say you your wall absorbs 75% of the blue and green  light being thrown at it (it's probably more). You would have to remove 75% of the red as well to balance it out. You might actually be able to do this with a fairly saturated Cyan filter (cyan is the opposite of red) but this would give you the effect of a projecting onto a dark gray wall. No good.

Look for an Elite Sceens dealer. They are a good brand but about 60% of the price of other good brands.

  4. It would work but the colors will be distorted. They are made to be used on white.

  5. I would just hang up a sheet or you could try to correct it by going into the color settings and turning down the red or turning blue and green up.
