Do public pre schools charge you money?

If it is a public preschool, run by the public school system, then there should be no fee at all. In NY there are pre-kindergarten programs and no fee is involved.

Some are completely free including lunch.  Others are similiar to elementary school fees while others require a little more for the consumable supplies required. Call the school you are interested in your child attending and ask.  They can at least give you what was charged this year.

i work for a public preschool in michigan, and yes we charge. in fact our prices are higher than many private preschools. the only free preschool we have is for at risk children. your child has to meet 2 "at risk" conditions to be qualified.  such as low income, single parent family, learning disabilities, non-english speaking, etc.

It depends on the preschool. some our 100% fFree nothing cost. Then there are some that cost for transportation and food. There are some that require all cost for the one year. Most likely there will be at least one preschool somewhere nearby that doesn't cost but there will be some that do. If you look hard enough for the different preschools you'll be able to find ones that don't cost anything!

Each state has rules concerning preschool. There is a national campaign on to make preschools part of the public school system. There are pros and cons to this train of thought. Normally, public schools (and preschools) will be free to children living in that school district.

Where I live, there are a few public schools that offer preschool. However, it is not open to everyone. You must either qualify financially or get the "luck of the draw" to have your child attend. Check with your local ISD to find out what is available where you live.
