Do pumkins grow straight up or just as vines?

I have these strange plants growing in my garden i had planted pumkins from seeds but there growing straight up are they pumkins

  1. im thinking pumpkins grow on vines and not straight up.

    just google it.


  2. The sprouts shoot up and then grow into vines.

  3. If they are still seedlings, they'll grow straight up first.  Eventually they'll start to grow as vines.  Obviously pumpkins are too heavy and the plant would not be able to support that weight - which is why they ripen on the ground.  Look at the link to check out pumpkin seedlings.

  4. If you mean straight up as in a tree with fruits or vegetables attached to it, no, pumpkins indeed grow as vines
