  1. no....but if you want to get faster you should start stretching before and after a workout. you should notice a change in your speed within about 3 months.

    good luck

  2. push ups may strengthen your punch partially, because punching involves the whole body including legs, twisting of the waist and shoulder, but it will not make you punch faster.

The only way you can punch faster is by fast repetitive punches. fast shadow punching and fast bag punching, concentrating on acceleration at all time. At least 200 repetitions punches.  In your mind, you must will your punches to get maximum acceleration every time. Don't tense up your body, try to relax as much as possible. When you tense up your body, all your muscles is contracting against each other and that will slow you down. When you are body is relax, only the muscles requires to get the job done contract. In the very last moment, pass all your forces into your punch.

(I'm in agreement with Daddy, Plyometric push ups really contribute to faster punches.  People that say "no" are also correct in that push ups are not the number one developer of punching speed.... punching, sparring, bag work, and many other things contribute more.  However, in addition to building upper body pushing your body up builds muscle memory and nuero-skeletal response for straightening your arms and pulling your hands across your body.)
