Do puzzle mats actually work?

I love doing jigsaw puzzles, but they get in the way when I'm not working on it. The felt mats that you roll up with the puzzle on it, do they work? I don't want to buy one to find out it doesn't work.

I never liked them because the pieces I had put together would not stay together when I rolled the mat up.  I just bought a different type of board that I really like (it's called the Porta Puzzle).  I put a link to the site I bought it from below.  It's actually a board; so you can work the puzzle without a table (I like doing them on the bed).  Then the board folds up, leaving your puzzle and pieces undisturbed.  I just slide the board under the bed when I'm finished.  They're a bit expensive, but I think they're worth it.

I love doing jigsaw puzzles too, but I hadn't done one in a long time because of the inconvenience.  I'm now doing my first one in years because of my new Porta Puzzle purchase.
