Do "f**t lollipops" really work, and, if so, how?

Do gag lollipops like the one above, that supposedly induce farts, actually work? I'm skeptical. My little brother recently bought one and it doesn't have any extra ingredients (it only contains corn syrup, flavoring, and dyes.) We haven't tried it out yet on anyone.

I was thinking that it's probably a rip off, and that it doesn't work.

Do they work, and if they do, how?
