  1. Yes they can.

I have two little bunnies that see fine in the dark, there just hopping around for joy at night.

  2. Rabbits and bunnies are the same thing, so you only need to use one or the other term.

But yes, like most animals- especially those with wild blood in them- rabbits are able to see in the dark. They don't have the intelligence or imagination to be scared by darkness- they're startled by sudden noise or unusual smells, not a change in light, though they do notice light changes.

And please get them a cage. I don't know where you plan to keep them, but uncaged animals are likely to get injured, sick, or even escape due to the stupid amount of freedom they have. They'll chew wires, destroy objects, get trapped behind things, hurt their paws on things, eat things they're not meant to eat- they also won't feel secure.

Rabbits don't sleep as you and I- you can't put them in your room, cage less, at ten o'clock in the evening (for example) and expect them to sleep through 'til seven am. Rabbits, more or less, sleep in shifts and sleep lightly, maybe for two to five hours, and are less likely to sleep for a decent period if uncaged, as they will feel unsafe. They will also get up to all sorts whilst you sleep, potentially injuring themselves. The cage, for domestic rabbits, becomes like a 'burrow', their home, and they won't have a safe place if you just let them hop around the room.
