Do rats eat chicken eggs?

We saw a rat in our chicken coop, and the next day only had 2 eggs ,most time we get 7-9 eggs.

Get some kind of wire mesh and cover any old wood, any holes, and maybe encase the nests in wire and let out the chickens not setting in the daytime and lock them up at night.

Rats will kill and eat adult birds also.
