  1. yep send them to rehab

  2. I'm haven't heard of actual age regression, but I do know that recovered addicts can show a sort of age stasis.

When a person first developes an addiction, they are put in a place where they don't have to deal with emotional issues. They don't learn how to deal with life. Essentially, their personality and the development of their character is put on pause.

When they eventually break out of their addiction, they are left at the stage of development they were at when their addiction started. My dad got set back, like, 20 years by alcoholism.

Behavioral regression may be caused by brain damage, which could cause child-like behavior due to actual retardation.

If you mean temporary regression, it may just be a stage in the mental recovery process. If a person is used to indugling themselves in their vices without consideration for those around them, and were set in that for years, then it may take time for them to break out of the mode of self-serving behavior. One of the biggest factors of a child's behavior is that they don't know how to behave apart from trying to get what they want. This is also the mentality of a user. It may be more noticible when the person actually starts doing things besides getting high. They will probably mature and recover as they get further away from their old patterns.

  3. Yes, in some cases.

Maybe because the brain forgets so much when on heroin, like how to behave like an adult and all that.

It effects everyone in different ways but child like behaviour can be one.

  4. if their addiction was strong enough and they have serious withdrawal, then yes, there's no telling how they'll act

  5. yes

  6. I don't know about heroin addicts, but...with must drug users, what I have been told and what has been seen by Doc's are if a child starts using, at that age is when the "brain" some what gets stuck in? whether this is scientifically proving I don't know, but the Therapist I have spoken to regarding my own child's behavior with common street drug is that the brain seems to work differently if they are users begin at a young age.

Is the person that you know suffering from childlike behavior and if so ask yourself when that person starting tampering with drugs? chances are you'll come to the age in which they have stop maturing.

  7. National Geo had a thing on Heroin. Look it up on there site. Very detailed.

  8. Yes they do, i work in a psych hospital and we have a guy who used heroin and other substances heavily for many years prior to coming into hospital, he is 42 and has been clean for several months, however his behaviour is like that of a teenager, he has a tantrum if he dont get his own way and has no idea on how to look after himself. Long term use of drugs affects the development of the brain which means they lack the social and life skills that they should have learnt when growing up, due to heavy drug use many dropped out of school and never got jobs so have never learnt these skills, many drug addicts dont see a way out, drugs can be there life only they can recognise they have a problem and either get or accept help from others.
