  1. red plants also have chlorophyll (which gives the green color to plants) Usually chlorophyll is in excess of other pigments therefore majority of plants are green colored. For some plants other pigments such as red pigments are in excess (in addition to green chlorophyll), therefore their green color is masked by other pigments and they appear as red, yellow or purple.
