Question:

Do regents scores matter?

I've always been told that so long as you pass, the grade you receive isn't too important.

I ask this because last year I got a 75, 81 & 72 on my tests but this year I got a 98 & 97.. is the grade pointless just as long as I got above a 65?

  1. Having taken them and passed them all, no they don't really matter. They just give you a regents diploma and send you on your way.

*mourns the time she lost sitting for those tests*

  2. Regents scores show on your transcript that will be submitted to any college you want to attend.  They may also be shown to future employers if they request you to provide a copy of your transcript.

Regents scores have the additional benefit of pushing your grade point average up.  This makes you more likely to get a scholarship.

One more thing is to simply remember that there are so many things in your future that you cannot plan for everything.  So, making a decision not to worry about the scores, could be making a decision that will hurt your future.  Make today your opportunity for tomorrow as you continue to ace those exams!

NYS tests are not 5th quarter marks and are not viewed by colleges as such!!!

They see these tests as your ability to take a class and retain the information.  Passing a class and carelessly taking the test with a 65 can damage your passing score.  These tests are 25% of your overall grade!!

  3. Yeah, theyre pretty much pointless. Colleges just see them as a fifth quarter average or a final. They are seen, but it's not like they go, "Oh my! She got a 100 on the fkadafhal regents!" They just see the score, are impressed or turned off, and go along with business. I wish they looked at those scores though. I'm happy with mine. WHY NYS! WHY!?!?!
