Interesting question, star for you! I am sure they think, just probably differently than you and me. My sister's fiancee is borderline genius / borderline insane. He does not think the same way normal people do.

I worked with mentally retarded/physically handicapped Cerebral Palsy victims. Yes...they think and they feel. ..they just don't hold grudges as long as we do.

They don't have good short term memory..but they usually have really good long term memory.

Out of all the passengers I ever had on any of my flights, I would say I loved working the flights when any of them were on board. Especially to and from Special Olympic events.

One guy was so curious about flying and the aircraft that I broke out my manual and told him the information about the aircraft.........it's length, width, how tall the aircraft was, how fast we flew, our average altitude, etc.......

He was so curious and amazed by all of it.

We all have a limited learning ability and limitations.

Some people are incredibly skilled with math equations, others aren't.

Some are eloquent with speaking and writing, others aren't.

Some are gifted with music and instruments, and others aren't.
