Do returning soldiers get hooked up with jobs by the military?

I mean does the military have career counseling that leads to guaranteed job opportunities? (ie. job hookups) I was under the impression they automatically supplied you with work after you served your term, so how does the gov. take care of it's own in this respect?

  1. No!  Quite a few of our servicemen find jobs that relate to skills they have learned in the military and having served in the military is a plus with many prospective employers.

But the military does not guarantee any job placement.

  2. no i am still unemployed

  3. Definitely not. My husband is in the Army, and you have a job in the military, not a job for life. Think of it this way- why would the military supply you with a job for life when you are done with the military, when their goal is to keep as many people in the military as possible? That's why they have recruiters. There is no "guaranteed job" after you've served your term. The only way the government "takes care of its own" in terms of a job is in the aspect that military job experience looks very good on a career resume. There is no job kickback after your term is over.

  5. Hmmm...I've been in the military 14 years and have never heard of anything relating to a "guaranteed" job opportunity in the civilian sect once you leave the military. You have a guaranteed job in the military so long as you agree to serve, but outside of the military then you are a civilian and on your own.

Serving in the military looks great on a job application, unless you screwed up and got kicked out.

  6. If you had a job before you deployed it should still be there for you. There are career counselors to help find a job, web sites the specialize in prier military. But the gov does not hook you up with a job unless you want to stay in the military.

  7. They'll try and get you ready for the public world before you leave but by this time you're an adult and they figure you can fend for yourself after duty since they've given you training. depending on your job in the military some employers see it as experience.

  8. N O T

not even the VA will help...

  9. After serving more than 20 years in the US Air Force, I was fortunate enough to be able to go to back to college and complete my degree through the GI Bill.  The University's placement office helped me find work after graduation, but that's the only help I received.

The US Military DOES provide career counseling to service members who are ready to leave the service, but they DO NOT find jobs for them.

  10. No, they get hooked up with narcotics.
