  1. Not usually but my Dad used to own an old .38 Special revolver with a manual safety.  It was Belgium or Austrian made.  My bro got it after he passed away and now that bro also passed I don't know what happened to it.

  2. depends on the revolver. most modern revolvers, especially single actions, have the transfer bar automatic safety. many double action revolvers also have this.

I have seen some cheaper western (single action) style revolvers with a manual thumb safety as well. made by excam or f.i.e. as i recall.

  3. Safety can mean several different things:

Manual safety: (like a 1911) No

Mechanical safety: Yes. Most often called the transfer bar safety which prevents the hammer from striking the firing pin unless the trigger is fully pulled to the rear.

  4. all of the ones i have used didnt have a safty

  5. A traditional safety, typically no

The transfer bar that almost  all quality revolvers have  is a hammer drop safety not a hammer block or trigger block safety

It prevents the gun from firing unless the trigger is pulled it does not prevent the gun from firing if the trigger is pulled

Heritage Rough Riders also have the external hammer block safety that bikermog is talking about

  6. Some do, some don't. GCA '68 mandated that to be imported  a handgun must have a safety. Nearly all imported revolvers have a hammer block safety that can be rotated to keep the hammer from striking the firing pin.

  7. Most don't but I'm sure there are some out there with them.

  8. Yes, most of them do, but there are some revolvers that don't have safeties.
