  1. Sure.  It depends on how they have their household staff organized.  The butler doing the full job only incidentally answers the door as part of his duties in managing the whole staff and guarding the privacy of the household.  A house that has a large social schedule might require one, but these days the wife running the household (instead of the husband) might have an executive assistant or social secretary which does many of the same jobs.  With enough public exposure, the household may have full time security people who either handle the door or pass people long before they get to the door, so greeting is done by staff members or the lady or gentleman of the house.

  2. if rich ppl don't have Butler ! who would have???

  3. of course

  4. Yes,the very rich, who live on very large estates, located on vast amounts of acreage, out of sight,do  have butlers,maids,valets,drivers... and also many residences.People like Bunny Mellon,Jane Wrightsman,Averil Harriman, very wealthy people who avoid the public eye.

  5. Yes, people have live-in butlers and maids.

It's ridiculous and shows how lazy someone can be... but I guess it gives jobs to the needy?....

    I'm stretching to understand it.

  6. Yes, the market for butlers, or "household managers" as they are often otherwise known nowadays, is growing particularly in the New York City area and Silicon Valley in California.  The Starkey Institute of Household Management of Denver, Colorado, is a vocational school training professional household managers, who pay approximately $13,000 for an intensive, two 8-weeks course, plus the cost of room and board, to learn how to manage a large household.  Upon graduation, they will make between $60,00 to $120,000 per year. Jeeves never had it so good!

  7. Yes. Celebrities have butlers. Almost every lower middle to upper class household in the Philippines- no matter how bad the economy is have servants. We don't call them as butlers exactly. We have the housemaids, the yaya (nanny), the driver, labandera (the one who washes the clothes), the driver, the boy( the one who runs errands), the gardener, the mayordoma or mayordomo (somewhat like a butler but could be either a male or a female).

  8. I don't think so i mean i'm sure some do but i doubt very many. They may have someone to clean their house or maybe even cook but i don't think they have the "butler" portrayed in the movies. It just seems tacky

  9. Yes, But not like on those shows. A good butler knows his place.

  10. yes i am a butler

  11. I'm not rich but have what we call a "houseman".  He does work outside and inside the house; serves at parties and when friends are over, cleans the dishes, dusts, does floors, etc., he lives in my home as part of his salary.  Works about 4 hours a day.

  12. DUh..... if they want one .... what a freaking stupid question!

  13. Sure, if their to lazy to answer the door themselves.

  14. I have a wife.

  15. Unfortunately I am poor so I can't afford to have a butler...that's why I had children so I can force them to do all my work for me....hahaha Just joking! I'm sure some people do, if I had the money I'd love to just pay someone to clean out the toilet and mop the bathroom floor cuz that really is a sucky job!!

  16. lol ur so cute, depends if tht rich person wnts one. if they dnt wnt to do any of the cleaning themselves they hire a butler.

  17. Yes. A butler is a career, and people actually go to school to learn how to become a "professional butler" for the rich. Just like how there are university programs that teaches women how to become a "professional nanny." For example, Filipino nannies actually can earn a university degree in "House Caring," amazing, isn't it? And who said "household servants" are less educated people?

A butler is a senior servant in a large household. In the great houses of the past, the household was sometimes divided into departments with the butler in charge of the charge of the entire parlour floor, and a housekeepers caring for entire house and its appearance. Housekeepers are dining room, wine cellar, and pantries. Some also have occasionally portrayed in literature as being the most senior staff member and as even making recommendations for the hiring of the butler.

In Britain the butler was originally a middle ranking member of the staff of a grand household. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the butler gradually became the usually senior male member of a household's staff in the very grandest households there was sometimes a steward who ran the entire estate, rather than just the household, and who was senior to the butler into the nineteenth century. Butlers used to always be attired in a special uniform, distinct from the livery of junior servants, but today a butler is more likely to wear a business suit or business casual clothing and appear in uniform only on special occasions.

Butlers used to work their way up from the bottom and belong to clubs in larger cities such as London, but today, tend to go to butler schools and belong to guilds such as The International Institute of Modern Butlers and The Guild of Professional English Butlers. Butlers are also found in hotels, corporate settings, yachts, and embassies, and are available as temporary service providers.

  18. Aloha from Down Unda!

I'd say poor people simply can't afford 'em!  Naturally, if I were rich, my staff might include several butlers...we KNOW the maid service would be as good as Hef's!

    Best wishes~

  19. yes but not all.  only if they hire one.  It's less common than tv makes it out to be though.  I don't have a butler but I have 2 maids (they are like family to me though)

    hope I helped,
