Do rocks talk and greet people?

There are other hadiths about talking rocks too. This hadith was promoted by Al-Albani, one of the best hadith scholars in the 20th century, so it's not weak.

Quran mentions the clouds and mountains talk and obey Allah (they refused to be put under a test; and they were given the option to move and they chose to move), so it doesn't seem to contradict quran.

So, do rocks talk?

I had a pet rock back in the 70's. It never spoke one word to me.

Not necessarily. The word "greet" in this context probably means that the rock was the first thing he saw on his way to Makkah. The word greet can be used as, come across, meet, etc. So while rocks may talk, depending on how spiritual you are, this rock probably was not talking to him.

Another example: When I come home I am greeted by the warmth of my heater. The heater is not actually talking to me, neither is its warmth, but I am still being greeted by it.

Well of course they talk.  One day they will tell Muslims where the Jews are so they can be killed, right?  Apparently rocks are rotten snitches.

"The Day of Resurrection will not arrive until the Moslems make war against the Jews and kill them, and until a Jew hiding behind a rock and tree, and the rock and tree will say: 'Oh Moslem, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!'" (Sahih Bukhari 004.52.176)

I do not understand why you asked this question. One of the basic belief of Islam is that, Allah is Omnipotent.

I haven't read the hadith in Arabic.

But I do know "greet" in Arabic can be used in many ways.

I'd say it's an Arabic Metaphor, translated literally.

It baffles me how people would be quick to disbelieve in this yet from a sperm they've become to a being that speaks, eats, drinks, defecates. But it seems that is all that some people do.
