Do royal palawana trees have branches that die while the tree thrives?

on the branches themselves are some smaller branches that are dead?

Oh yeah!  The huge size of the leaves easily shades out smaller interior branches so they do die out.  A little dead twig/branch removal makes a better looking tree.  

Pretty tree but oh so trashy.
