Question:

Do salespeople at Best Buy make commission or bonuses for selling extended warranties?

I just got talked into a four year, extended warranty on my new TV. The warranty cost $130. I didn't really want it, but I let the sales guy talk me into it. Part of what sold me was the fact that he told me he doesn't make any kind of commission or bonus on the warranty, so I took seriously what he said in telling me to buy it. Now I've read and heard from other people that I shouldn't have bought it, and I'm wondering if the sales guy lied to me.

  1. I saw an undercover report on tv about best buy's extended warrranty practices.  The employees HAVE to meet a quota to sell extended warranties otherwise they usually get harrassed by their managers and co-workers and they get belittled and humiliated in front of every employee if they don't when they have their so called progress report meetings on who sold the most warranties.  The one who sells the most gets bonuses and free gifts.  So that way they circumvent the commission issue.

  2. No, they are not paid commission or bonus on anything at Best Buy.  However, the store is rated on the amount of warranties they sell.  If the store is budgeted to derive 7% of the sales volume in warranties, and they fall short of that, there is a lot of "coaching" and re-training of the staff until the warranty percentage is at or above goal.

  3. No getting a extended warranty is great because if you want a TV to last longer and if there is a problem you can return it at any time and get a replacement. Even if he/she does get that comission he is helping you out.  But if he forced you to get it and put his name on it then I guess its for comission.

  4. disregard any answer because i actually worked for BB in the home theater dept..

1st off no we were not on commission or did not receive any gift for selling warranties tvs or assembly

butt theres alot of politics behind working there..

its true we did have a quota on warranties and installs and if we fell behind we never stopped hearing it that day or the next

IF an employee was amazing 1 day and sold and attached many accesorries and warranty and setup (not just 1 customer i mean like 4 or 5 in 1 day) they might get a 10 or 20 dollar gift card

i myself got a 100 dollar gift card from BOSE because i sold a 4000 dollar home theater system ( crazzzy profit for bose ) and got a 800 dollar instalation on it ( wiring, connecting , mounting)

if your buying a plasma buy a warranty 100% lcd you can generaly do without unless your worried
