Do scrap merchants buy aluminium?

Do scrap merchants in general purchase aluminium? If they do, does this count crushed food/drink tins and cans?

Yes, they will buy crushed drink cans, but because the drinks cans are so lightly made with thin gauge aluminium, you need a lot of cans to make taking them to a scrap yard worth while.

Food cans are normally manufactured from coated tin. Use a magnet to tell the difference.

Absolutely.  Beer/soda cans bring 70 cents a pound in Southwest Texas.  I turned in 31.50 worth (yes, I drink a lot of Beer) just last week.
