Question:

Do selfish parents breed violent children?

Are young people with increasingly violent, self-destructive behaviour out of control — or is this the most self-centred, negligent generation of parents yet?

Globally, young people in newly affluent societies are playing up — they stagger drunk from parties, consume an array of drugs, have s*x at increasingly young ages and are disturbingly violent.

Whose to blame...the governments (as always) or parents (which seldom happens)?

  1. It starts with parents not setting certain limits for their children so that they grow up knowing what is (socially) right and wrong, and ends with the government not having a strict enforcement of the law.

  2. If my son behaves like this when he is old enough to, then I can't see why the government could be to blame for this type of behaviour.

People might argue that these type of things need to be policed better, but If I as a parent know that policing is lacking in my country then there is even more reason to have better control over my children, If I know that policing is really good, then it is understandable that I can cut him a bit more slack.

At the end of the day - while he lives in my house - I am responsible for him and I will do my best to bring him up to be as decent a human being as possible.

In short - Parents should be the ones to blame and not government.

A while back on one of your q's I think it was Zim, Ayiza challenged my answer about giving teachers more power over disciplining the students, where Ayiza was arguing that it is the parents responsibility to discipline the child and not the teachers, yes maybe so, but with the child spending most of his waking hours at school - one can only hope that teachers can help out in this area and the parent can decide weather or not the teachers are doing the right thing or not.
