How can shark, dolphin, and other sea animals taste their food when they are in a salty water?

They just eat anything for no reason? No pleasure of food tasting and all?

  1. Most animals of the ocean do not have "taste buds" as we know it. Instead, they rely on scent, chemical signatures, and sometimes electromagnetic pulses. Sharks may not be able to taste, but they extremely sensitive noses, one drop of blood can be scented over a mile away. But Dolphins, whales and other mammals of the sea do have tongues, and therefore taste buds, but their tongues are not as sensitive to salt like ours are, allowing other tastes to "taste" stronger. Animals in the ocean do not eat without reason, they eat because they need to eat. They can tell what will help, and what will harm. But I expect that mammals in the ocean do get some pleasure out of eating, just like we do.
