  1. yes, i guess so becuz they are animals that are rescued. some of them are feral, but they can still live in your house, it just takes them a little to get used to living in a house. i got my kitty from a shelter and hes fine lol.

  2. They make great pets

    plus you save a life

just make sure and take it to the vet within 24 hours of the adoption to have it check for health problems as the shelter staff dont know its history. My boxer i adopted is about 7 years old, Shes wonderfull. Im very glad i got her. Shes spaded and the only problem ive had is a small growth, which is kinda prone to the breed. But shes going to have it removed ASAP. please dont buy from a breeder. Remember to spay/neuter. and 25% of shelter pets are pure bred

  3. Most of my animals come from shelters dogs, rabbits, 2 of my rats, I even got 5 of my turtles at the shelter here. None have any health problems except my oldest dog has arthritis but that is only from being hit by a car as a puppy before he was taken to the shelter.

  4. I have a beagle from a shelter she's 8 months and is super heallty and fit.

  5. they make GREAT pets! shelters aren't like pet stores, they have vets and workers on staff to care for the animals health and well being so they shouldn't have health problems.

  6. shelter animals make excellent additions to the family..some may need work to help them through their past if they have been neglected or abused (but it will b well worth it in the long run)..

as far as health problems...they shouldnt have more problems than any other pet that wasnt in a shelter..

the most rewarding thing about a shelter animal is knowing that you rescued them from an uncertain future..

  7. Shelter animals make fine pets. They usually do not suffer from any abnormal health problems when compared to any other dogs. They do have some special needs dogs though, that have some health issues. They will inform you about such before you adopt an animal though.

  8. Im a county animal care technician and they make great pets i have like 5 at home there the sweetest angels

  9. i have had no problems with mine (several), with the exception of the dog i got from a "shelter" in mexico. she had some kind of cancer, produced by a venereal disease of sorts. it was treatable and she's been fine for over 3 years now.

i think most all U.S. shelters keep their dogs apart, unlike mexico.

  10. I got a dog and a kitten from the shelter and so far so good. It's been a year now. You just have to make sure when you get a pet, make an appointment at your vet asap to get all shots needed and regular check up.

  11. They are usually healthier than pet stores because they have vets on site making sure that they are healthy. Honestly in my experience, they make the best pets. You can actually sense their gratuity to you for saving them.

  12. Shelter animals make GREAT pets, especially the ones that were raised there.  I've noticed that the ones raised there from birth seem to be much more affectionate towards humans due to their constant exposure to them.  In my opinion, they need out of there a lot worse then the ones you find at stores because some shelters euthanize their animals after 3 months or so.  I hate it too, but its a sad fact of life. : (

So if you have a certain cat or dog on your mind, and you got along with it, and your home is ready, I'd say adopt it asap.

As for the health problems, its rare to get a sick animal because the sick ones are NOT supposed to be on the adoption floor.  They get isolated and individual treatment.
