Would they leave a visible smoketrail that would last for at least over a minute? And what type of heat signature do they give off?

  1. They would likely leave behind a small, thin cloud, like a contrail of a plane (the two wispy lines coming from the wingtips of jets). However, this would be very faint.

There might be a residual trail of evaporated material, but it wouldn't be visible.

Of course, they would leave behind a very significant heat trail, and if you had equipment to detect this, you would probably see it clearly.

  2. Yes, I have seen these last for hours on rare occasions after a fireball / bolloid, these are referred to as "trains".  For them to last a few minutes in very common.  I don't know about the heat signature?
