  1. Typically yes, but if great singing doesn't run in the family don't sweat it. There are ways to enhance your voice and be a great singer beyond what your genes say :]

  2. Yes and no. A small part is, but most is from a person's physiology. That means the way the throat, especially the voice boy, is built. Also, the sinuses in the skull also help singing voice. The way a person is built usually is the reason for amazing sounding voices. People can learn to sing better, but most of the voices of the "stars" (Well, the stars in the past such as Maria Callas and Aretha Franklin, cause today's singers have no talent) comes from their body structure.

  3. No, I am living proof of that.  I come from a whole family of Gospel singers and I am the only one that can't sing.  I am the heathen of the family also.

  4. Possibly, but talent is only a very small part of being good at anything.

  5. i think so.

if not, and you are good at it because you studied, then it is a skill.

  6. A great voice is born. So yes, genetics is a huge factor, since if you just cannot carry a tune in a bucket, it's the luck of the draw. However, voices can be trained through voice lessons. So a mediocre voice can be improved by learning HOW to sing. Even a great voice benefits by singing lessons as it teaches proper techniques, use of the diaphram, and can teach you how to sing without damaging your vocal cords. Bottom line is that if you are an OK singer, you can improve!
