  1. no...  lol

Trust me Im from the Poconos.

  2. No, 40 degrees is not too warm to ski but the check the resort's website or call them the night before or that day. They will have plenty fo base snow at this time of yr. There's only one warning about not skiing that day & that's if it's raining. They may not close in the rain but if it's a hard rain with thunder & lightning then they will close. A temp. of 40 degrees alone, will not close the ski area. Have fun!!!

  3. No. They will stay open as long as there is skiable snow. 40F is no where close to enough to melt the snow already on the base.

Resorts will close for the following reasons:

    1) High Winds that pose a threat to safe lift operations. (ie. When I was at Jay Peak one time in 2003)

    2) Thunder or Lightning in the area. (Two weeks ago at Smuggler's Notch)

    3) Excessively high temeratures that have eroded the base to the point where there is no snow. (Last January...Poconos and Catskills.)

    4) Ice Storm (This week...several Pocono ski areas)

    5) Avalanche danger...something we don't have to worry about in the East...at least too much.

    6) State of Emergency and all roads are closed. No employees and no skiers equals no skiing.

Aside from that, only the end of a season or some mechanical failure, fires, or bankruptcy would cause a resort to close in mid-season....especially on a holiday weekend.

40F is fine skiing weather. Wear something waterproof as you will get wet. Wear gloves...even if you are warm. Even the last days of May at A-Basin when it is 65F I still wear lightweight gloves....nothing sucks more than to take a spill in the heavy slush and pull your bleeding hand out of a pile of slushy ice crystals. Save your knuckles...wear gloves.

Besides...low temps tonite are gonna be in the teens....I bet the snow guns will be going full blast! You should have some fine conditions if the rain doesn't make a return.

  4. No, as long as the base is there (which it is this year) skiing will continue no matter how high the tempreture rises. At an eastern resort like Camelback they will keep skiing until there is nothing but mud and slush left. Out west the lifts are likely to be shut down for spring while some runs would still be viable by eastern standards.
