i would imagine the urge to reproduce and the resultant copulation has  as similar end result for all taxa of life on the planet.  to a greater or lesser degree for obvious reasons (compare a blue whale and a humming bird doing it on the wing) spare a thought for the odd spider though, the male of which can sometimes get eaten!!

I would imagine so. o****m has an evolutionary function - nature ensures that animals do the things that further their own survival and that of the species by making these things pleasurable. This includes mating, eating and so on. Also, when a female orgasms, her cervix spasms downwards into the area the male's sperm is deposited, sucking it up into the womb and thereby aiding conception (this is why males often ejaculate before the female orgasms).

The 'original sin' story is a load of bunkum, and has been used by generations of ignorant fools obsessed with religious dogma to revile snakes and be cruel to them. They evolved over millions of years, just like every other animal on the planet, and like every other animal they have a vital role to play in the ecosystem. They are not evil or out to get you, they are just trying to survive.

In response to Katatat143's answer, all snakes do not form a mating ball. Some species, such as garter snakes, do this, but most species do not.

Lol..I'm quite they do!!! All snakes in the wild have a ritual called the mating ball, its when the female has a many as several or more males coiled around her body as they take turns mating with her, the ball begins to take shape, they can remain this way for up to 6hrs or more, So in other wards its one big wild life orgy!!!
