Do solar pool covers really work?

I have a 20' x 40' inground pool, 10 feet deep at the deepest point. I live in the northeast so sometimes its super hot, but never for more than a few days at a time so the water never stays very warm.

Is a solar cover worth the investment?

  1. Yes. Solar covers maintain the current temperatures of the water and most magnify the heat from the sun.

  2. I've owned a pool in the western new york area for many years, and have found that the solar cover works excellent. It will  heat your pool up a few degrees, however it will keep a lot of the heat in when the temperature drops at night. It  is also helpful if your pool filter is on a timer. If you can, set the timer to go on at about 2 in the afternoon for about 45 minutes. This will mix the top layer of heated water with the cooler deeper water.

  3. yes they do heat a pool 10-15 degrees...but most people get tired of the hassle of rolling/unrolling cover everytime they want to use it...automatic covers are more convenient and keep out dirt and leaves, but the cost is too much for some people-heres a link on these covers: http://www.swimming-pool-information.com...
