Question:

Do some Americans think that all British people have the same accent?

Because whenever I hear an American trying to do a British accent, they always make it sound all posh, like the Queen. It's the same in American movies, whenever there is a British character they always have them talk like the Queen.

Do they realize there are more than one British accent? Or do they think we all speak the same?

  1. I only know there's two, the posh version and this really chopped up one. It's like America, we have all kinds of accents, Southern, New Yorker :D, ILL, NJ, CT, Western, Cali, etc :)

Don't be upset a lot of other countries think all Americans sound like cowboys ><!

  2. Probably...it's just a generalization, like how most British think that all  Americans are fat and lazy (don't get me wrong some are). I haven't noticed in most movies, maybe cartoon shows like the Simpsons and Family Guy. But I can differentiate someone from London and someone from Liverpool though.

  3. some of them do , but then again they have never heard the scouse accent -

  4. I have two English co-workers and one is from outside London and the other is from Liverpool.  When I hear them speak I can hear a definite difference in their accents and some pronunciations.  I'm not sure about people who are from other places in England, so I'm not sure if there are more accents than these two.  But there definitely is a difference.

  5. It's not just the Queen accent they mimic. I've heard some even mimic the Cockney accent, so much so that the majority of action games featuring a British character sold in the US use that accent (especially with the Grand Theft Auto games).
