  1. I havent noticed people being as simplistic as this but I think its better when people advise others to seek professional help than pretend they are in a position that they can diagnose a problem.

I think this site is good to advise and give opinions and reassurance, but ultimatley how do I know if someone has a personality disorder from 10 lines they've wrote? I cant know, and I believe it would be irresponsible and false to pretend I do.

If someone feels like they have a serious mental health problem that is affecting their ability to function or their safety they should seek help.  Answers that give details and reasoning too are always more helpful though!

  2. Sometimes they don't know what else to say. Remember that there are pre-teen's and teen's on here, with the intention to help, of course. But some of the question posted on this site, especially in mental health, is beyond some of their maturity level and knowledge, and they simply do not know how to give professional advice.

Of course you also get those, who want to answer the question but simply don't have the time to answer or have the 2 extra points in mind. I know this is frustrating, especially if you are desperately trying to get an answer.

  3. please get help

  4. Because sometimes that's the ONLY answer.

Yahoo answers is not a doctor or psychiatrist, and cannot prescribe medication and appropriate therapy to those with health problems, it can only offer advice.

  5. cuz sometimes there's only so much you can do for a person on here.

do some people ask questions on here with "please don't tell me to get help"?

  6. Because they really have no idea what to say, and they want their 2 points.

  7. yeah.

  8. Yes there are some when they see a problem all they can say is get help as they have nothing to input or no experience to draw from.

  9. We are not qualified to give advice and some poster expect us to be able to give them a life changing answer and we can't.  I've seen questions where people have expect us to be able to tell them which of two medications is more additive when we could not possible know.  We can know they are both addictive but everyone will be different and anyone posting expect us to come up with an answer does not understand Yahoo Answers. It is for general advice not for diagnoses, treatment suggestions or exacts.  If it is appropriate to advice a person to seek the appropriate help via a qualified person that is what should be done not just answer for the sake of it. If someone is saying I'm going to kill myself for instance, are we are supposed to say, go on then?  It is correct that they are advised to seek help! If someone asks how do I get access to my medical notes that is different as that is a question that can be answered with, write to the organisation holding them etc. But questions asking if they have X Y or Z conditions can't be answered by us unless they are total ridiculous like, do I have bipolar because yesterday my cat died and I'm upset?  No, its called grief and is natural. It is frustrating if you want an answer but it is safer to go to a doctor for advice with things we could do more harm than good with.

  10. Looks like you just answered your own Question,

  11. It usually refers to professional help from qualified people

Hardly anyone here is qualified to give professional help. So, they probably think its a serious case and the person should get proper help.

Of course some people use it as a sarcastic way of saying the person is crazy

  12. There are many posters on here who are genuinely worried about their health etc ,but frightened to take a decision ,they then get told straight by the posters on here to see the doctor, all they need is a push and support.
