Question:

Do soy milk or other soy products really have an effect on men and a child's growth?

I've heard that soy milk (or perhaps soy in general) limits zinc absorption and thus negatively affects a child's growth.

I also heard it has an emasculating effect on men. Does it affect boy's body or genital growth during puberty? What are the true effects of soy milk and other soy products?

  1. its not true at all

  2. this info is wrong

  3. I would NOT overdo the soy products for children.  Asian parents don't feed their children as much as we westerners do when we go overboard.  I would limit and use organic only--lots of spraying of non-organic soybean fields.  Soy does have phyestrogens which in large amounts can create problems, but in low doses it should be OK.  If you are using milk, I would diversify with rice, almond and other milks.

  4. That is what the research suggests. Obviously all things in moderation is the key, but i got away from soy products, except tempeh and edemame which is good, a few years ago. For milk substitutes I use Hemp Milk, Almond Mild or Rice Milk.

  5. If it's not organic, it's GMO (Genetically Modified Organism). RoundUp Ready Soybeans are not good for anyone. Because this product is now global, I won't eat any soy beans in fear that they are probably RoundUp Ready.

  6. that's propaganda...

i've digested soy products since a toddler..   nothing doing.

i'm fine.. male and not bragging but i'm not stunted in any way...

my genitals are more than fine...   :D

that soy claim is propaganda by people who are trying to keep people on regular dairy.. it's old news.

    false news.

    nothing wrong with soy.

there's no zinc problem nor a protein problem..

  7. soymilk has very little estrogen in it. very little, not enough to count for anything

if you are concerned go with rice milk...i find it tastes better too

  8. Harvard school of public health in Boston - men who consumed more than two portions of soya-based foods a week had, on average, 41m fewer sperm per millilitre of s***n than men who had never eaten soya products.

Professor Dr. Dr. Andreas Hensel, President of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), comments, "Infant formula and follow-up formula made from soy protein should only be administered on medical grounds and then only under medical supervision." This is because of increasing evidence of negative, long term health effects of infant soy formula.

Babies fed soy-based formula have 13,000 to 22,000 times more estrogen compounds in their blood than babies fed milk-based formula.

Almost 15 percent of white girls and 50 percent of African-American girls show signs of puberty such as breast development and pubic hair, before the age of eight. Some girls are showing sexual development before the age of three. Premature development of girls has been linked to the use of soy formula and exposure to environmental estrogens such as PCBs and DDE.

01-31-07 Australian Cancer Centre issues a warning to all people undergoing cancer treatment for breast cancer or prostate cancer not to consume soy. Also for any women who have successfully undergone breast cancer treatment not to consume soy.

Nasty stuff, steer clear of it and I am bloody good at reading labels.

  9. Oh dear, where on earth did you hear this?

Soy milk does not negatively affects a child's growth. Many foods limit or interact with each other in nutrients such as zinc, I have not heard of soy being one.

Emasculating? Oh dear... That means to deprive of strength or vigor and of  the removal of the genitalia of a male, MANY men consume soy product and believe me their strength and vigor has not been deprived, if anything it has been revitalized. And their genitalia has not been removed.

  10. Soy is good for you, calcium is good for you. Just have an intake of both if you wish.

Don't worry about genital growth during puberty by the way, worry about the awkward moments where you'll find yourself "happy" for no reason.

  11. the funny thing is that the soy industry is a multi-billion dollar industry that needs to lie to the people to keep making money. well, the same goes for virtually everything...but soy is not as healthy as we've been made to believe. sure it has some good stuff in it, but the bad stuff prevails. esp. for children. kids do not need to be exposed to large amounts of estrogen. i heard a teenage boy who consumed soy milk his entire life ended up having TWO double mastectomies...yikes.

i guess everything in moderation is the key, but i'm not exposing my kids to soy no way no how.

  12. Soy contains photoestrogens and they react as REAL estrogens in the body... Meaning... It throws off the growth of children, boys AND girls, because it increases the rate of puberty in girls and causes an imbalance in hormones in males...

Too much estrogen in males = Extra testosterone production to offset the estrogen.

Producing that extra testosterone increases the production of progesterone which can lead to BREAST DEVELOPMENT IN BOYS!

    KEEP SOY AWAY FROM CHILDREN!!!!!

  13. 1. Soy does not have a feminizing effect on men. Consuming soy foods does not make you ''feminine'' at all. Diet does affect your health- no doubt about that - but ''feminizing effects''? Nope.

    2. Soy DOES contain phytic acid- which binds itself to minerals such as zinc, calcium, and iron in foods.

HOWEVER, that being said, soya does NOT lower absorption of such minerals to such a degree that would cause a deficiency in a balanced diet. (We're talking a slight reduction in aborption here- not something that will spark deficiencies in a healthy person).

    3. Soy, like any other food, is absolutely fine in moderation. Basically you would have to consume bucketloads of soy to have any negative impact on your mineral status.
