Should I even bother exchanging US dollars to pesos? Or, do all the stores/bars/restaurants/ taxis accept US dollars?

  1. I have been to Playa several times and yes they all take U.S. dollars. My husband and I never exchanged money but when you pay US dollars, you may get pesos back. However, they are easy to spend.

    Have a blast!

  2. In PDC everyone will take US dollars. The only thing I can say is that if you pay in USD you will pay about 5-10% more for everything as merchants won't give you the best rate. Typically they will give you 10 pesos for 1 dollar, where the bank rate tends to be about 10.5-11 pesos per dollar.

Also, if you have a $20 bill and try to buy a water or something like that at a little store they may not have enough change and as the first post said, you are likely to get your change in pesos.

All over PDC's 5th avenue you will find kiosks that will change your money for you, they won't give you the best rates but you won't have to wait in line either. Or you can go to a bank for the better rate but you likely have to wait 5 minutes or so. The other option is to just use you bank card at an ATM and withdraw pesos. You'll likely have a transaction fee of $3-$5 charged by your bank for this.

So the condensed version - use USD if you want, in tourist areas like PDC everyone will accept them.

  3. Most take dollars but will give change in Pesos and that will give you cash for the ones that won't.

  4. everywhere in playa u can pay with usdollars but in most of the places they will take a rete of exchange frm 1 to 10, also if they have 2 give u change and they dont have any more dollars, they will give it 2 u in pesos
