Do speed limit signs have to be on the right hand side of the road?

i got a ticket on a 6 lane highway but the sign with the reduced speed was on the left in the median and i was in the right lane and didn't see it why wouldn't it be on the right where it usually is?

  1. No, the signs can be on either side of the road, though usually on the right.  The speed limit on the sign starts at the sign.


  2. No............signs can be posted in the median as well.

  3. My guess is that there was also a sign on the right, or there was supposed to be.

      

    In most localities, signs are put on the left only when it's a temporary thing, like a construction zone.  And there are supposed to be signs on both sides then.  

  4. I would contest the ticket,the same thing happened to me in California,and I won I proved that there was not proper warning of reduced speed limit.  

  5. I have seen the reduced speed on the left in the median before on the interstate but usually there are speed limits signs on the right letting you know what the speed limit has been reduced to.
