Question:

Do spiders drown?

I had a spider in my bathroom sink earlier. I turned on the water and tried to drown it but it never did drown. I think it might have been a brown recluse. Is that a normal place for them to show up at? And is it normal for them not to drown in running water?

  1. yes, they breath just like us humans.

    unless they hold their breath.

We just dont think they're that smart. :D

  2. They do drown, just not in plain water.

The tension of the water surface (that also builds a drop) helps them to survive.

A simple trick would be to add a drop of soap to the water releasing the tension and make them drown...

Or you could be a little more determined to kill the lil bugger and use HOT water to kill them instantly (thats what I do)

Other than that flushing down any spider just makes them laugh at you.

They will sit in the sink, watch you take a bath and wait till you leave the room and turn off the light - just to come back and show up some other unexpected place to scare the sh*t out of you again.

Also throwing spiders out of the window doesnt help.

Tests have shown that they do remember where they came from and will try to return within a range of 20 meters (About 70 ft)

  3. Most do, yes.

  4. The majority of spiders, like most other living beings, require oxygen to survive and lack the ability to absorb it through the water the way fish do. However, some spiders, like the fishing spider of Ontario, can build a bubble, climb into it and gluide through the water while hunting.
