  1. in some races yes. in the 100m and 200m it will help you but in longer races like the 400m it will help you al little but  for the mile, or the 2 mile races it will not help you as much.

  2. Of course they do, that's why top athletes wear them.   Track shoes are not expensive, you'll pay more for a tennis shoe.   They are inexpensive because the use lightweight materials that are cheap to build.   But, light weight materials don't last, so you'll buy them every year, especially if you're still growing and improving in skills.

Spikes allow all your leg drive to be converted to the track, so they are most important in sprinting.  If you run on a cinder track, you've probably had your feet slip when you start, and when your feet slip you automatically stand up so you can't drive forward.  This adds time to your start.  Once you get to "cruise" speed, spikes aren't so important, but since you sprint on your toes, slipping is always a danger.

In jumping events, a good running start is also important, but also the jump mechanics require spikes too.   The penultimate step (next to last) in jumping requires you to drop your center of gravity down so the last step can explode up.   The drop down step requires good footing so you don't slip forward, the launch step requires good footing so you don't slip backward.

Consider your spike lengths.  For most conditions a 6mm (1/4") spike is all you need, although they do make longer ones.

  3. YES spikes help out a lot!!!! they mike you alot faster and it gives you a lot of traction and makes your feet lighter

  4. Spikes will give you about 2 second faster time in the 400 and about 1/2 second in the 100.

There are lots of variables in races so if everything is equal then that is about what you would expect the time differences to be.

  5. definately.... but dont do it on concrete cause ull s***w ur shoes up.

  6. Spikes make alot of difference especially in your start,

spikes give you more traction to grip the ground and push-off.

and you cover more ground quicker in spikes.

plus spikes don't carry any extra weight that shoes do.

in your 100 you can probably run 11.6 in spikes with the same efffort. and about 59 in the 400.
