Do sports photographers still use light meters nowadays?

I'm getting into sports photography and I'm not sure whether to buy a light meter when shooting Friday night football games or inside school gymnasiums. Is there anyone out there in the field that can give a newbie some good sound advice?

That is a good question. I can't image them using it in incident light mode. (Can't be on the field to measure illumination, you know). I am guessing that the camera's light meter is good enough--I could be wrong.

I have actually never known a sports photographer who used a meter and I do know plenty of them, having been a pro for over 30 years. (I personally do not do sports.)
