Do stocks tend to go down overall during the summer?

It certainly looks like they might this summer.  But generally I believe that stocks in general during the summer lag a little because those who would normally buy stocks are instead gone on vacation.  Also those who might be selling stocks, I might add. They do however tend to keep in touch with their brokers by lap top, blackberry, or cell phone; but in general they tend to pay more attention to the ladies on the beach or the birds in the trees in my case.
