Lets say I bought a call option for $2.00.

So I paid $200 for that one call option.

If i put a stop-loss oder in for $1.50 that is good until cancelled (GTC 60 days) will this oder carry into the pre market trading hours and after market trading hours?

  1. Options are not traded in after hours or pre-market trading. Consequently the stop-loss order cannot be filled in after hours or pre-market trading.

  2. The price should not be moving after market hours so that isn't a factor.  The question for me is how fast your broker can execute the stop-loss fast enuf to help you.  Remember when the auction-rate securities tanked, there were no buyers so the stop-loss function froze.

  3. No, stop orders (for stocks) placed during the regular session do not apply to the after hours/premarket trading sessions.

  4. Options only trade during exchange hours. This means from 9.30 am to 4 pm ET. Stocks continue to trade after hours as well as during pre-opening. NASDAQ stocks (4 letter symbols)are more liquid and easier to trade then NYSE stocks (3 letter symbols).
