yes. the most unexplored and undiscovered and unknown part of earth is the sea so, to us, the things we havent learned about are strange when we see them for the first time, which will most likely be at sea because that it the most unknow n things are.

Read about the Marie Salest, Moby d**k, find the Greek legend about the Syrons or read Gulivers Travells and concentrate on his wife's explanaion for his mad ways especially "Nothing to drink but sea water!"  Although I've not seen anything strange at sea, legends follow that idea.
