Question:

Do struts on a car bleed fluid naturally after a while?

I own a 2007 Dodge Caliber. The struts in the front-esp. on the driver's side-are ' wet ' from the hydraulic fluid inside them.

Is this a natural thing that I don't have to worry about???

  1. not normal don't let them tell u it is... ask ANY auto parts store person or mechanic

  2. only when they go bad

  3. How many miles on your car?   It is NEVER ok for them to leak, it is NOT normal, if your car is still under warranty, take it back to your dealer for strut replacement.

  4. NO ! ABSOLUTELY NOT. If you see oil coming out of them anywhere, it's time for new. If it's still under warranty, bring it back to the dealer.

  5. They will tell you a little moisture is ok, but if it's wet, get it replaced under warranty. If you are under 36k, it will be free parts and labor, also make sure they do it properly and align it afterwards.

  6. That is highly "unusual".  Any leaking shock or strut is a bad sign.  Are you sure it is not just residue from engine oil or filter change or adding oil?

Even when the strut boots on my 95 Maxima had disintegrated exposing the shaft by 100,000 miles, they did not leak (just worn internally).
