Question:

Do students get taxed?

My husband wants to go back to school and get his NVQ2 and we're wondering if there are any breaks you get for being a student. He'll be working full time and studying part time, and I'll be at home looking after the baby if that makes any difference. I've heard some stories of students not paying tax, or is that just a myth? I don't think we'll be quite that lucky, but still if there is any useful information on offer we'll be glad of it. Thanks!

  1. If you are in the US you have to pay income tax on anything you earn. Students don't have to pay taxes if they only get grants and loans. I'm not positive, as it's been many years, but I think my kids were taxed on work-study also. I forget exactly as they found it more beneficial to skip work-study and get a regular job, and I know they paid taxes on that money.
