Do sunglasses need to be prescribed by a doctor?

This might be a stupid question but in one article i saw a sentence from which i got the impression that you need a prescription from a doctor to buy sunglasses in the usa. This is very strange so id like to ask wether this is really so.

you can get prescription  sunglasses to wear in place of glasses but if you dont need a prescription then you dont need prescription sunglasses
