  1. Iceland's in deptford London put it in a big bin outside their front doors...all the homeless go through it. i,m all for helping the homeless but let them keep their dignity. why can,t their share it into carrybags and hand it out instead of making them fight for it.

  2. Hi,

I too, and many others would like the oportunity to have a share of the disgusting amount of produce that is taken away from supermarkets for destruction / incineration every day.

It is all done sneakily at the back door, in sealed containers, to both prevent a free-for-all on the premises, and to hide the amount of perfectly fine goods that could be put to use in places that need them. Just because a loaf of bread is yesterdays !

I did once design & install a fancy electrical system for a North London Tesco's, and was in total dismay at the amount of stuff that went into their compactor each day.

Anything from fresh fish to slightly scuffed trainers.

I was asked to keep queit about it all !

It is not impossible for them to have a free distibution service to areas of the world that would be very grateful.

    Bob

  3. Freegan eh ?

Im not sure the answer to your question but here is some info I found that may be helpful !

Here is a link to find other freegans near you !

    http://www.frappr.com/freegans

Here is a dumpster directory :

  4. First it goes on super sale to be sold now. Then if it is past the time frame for safety it is probably destroyed. However lots of store don't wait that long and send the food to the local homeless shelter to be cooked that day. USA

Try this site! All about freeganism, and what you can get for free! so so many places waste so much.

  6. Supermarkets throw away food at the end of the day if it is past its sell-by date. They normally put in in bins at the back entrance of the store. By the way, I think its illegal to scrounge in bins for food, I saw a documentary about it recently. Many supermarkets now keep the bins in private so the public cannot get to them.

    :)

  7. Most supermarkets seem to reduce the price of food past its best, but I have seldom seen any bargains in Marks and Sparks.

  8. All supermarkets throw away food.  It just depends on the rules of the store.  But, if they are going to throw away food, let's say from the produce dept, you will NOT have the chance to look at it.  Nobody is going to give you free food.  They will charge you something.  Your best bet is to go to a grocery store that has a hot foods section.  You know with fried chicken, those potato fries, and things like that?  Go in around 6pm or 7pm and they might give you a discount since the food has been sitting out all day.  That food is dumped each night and cannot be packaged and resold.

  9. they tend to try and sell it off cheaply, and failing this have to securely dispose of it, to prevent tramps etc hanging around.  It's a shame - so much food is wasted. But they are not allowed to give it away.

  10. If you go somewhere like asda shortly before it closes they will have reduced all the bits of food that they need to sell that night. Get it really cheap

  11. a lot of super markets give their day old bread stuff like that to food pantry's, kitchens, but the worst display of wasted food is schools at the end of the year when they empty their freezers and THROW it all away, when my father saw this he was so angry I thought he was going to stroke out, said the food would have run a soup kitchen for a year.

  12. You have to look for rotten food but waste time on your computer?   Instead get a job!

  13. Of course you really knew all along But this should confirm it.

I think most here understand there is still liability to disposal.

but I question their produce department..I see the staff remove the outer leaves of the lettuce and where the item has discolored if nothing less it is pig or goat feed.(4H - FFA - BSA ?)

there is something I don't know

their inventory systen can track the amount that is dumped and the know the $ amount

" do they get to deduct that spoilage as a loss for taxs???"

"do they deduct the cash they donate to the local schools ??"

  14. They throw them away only when it is spoiled by expiration date OR if a costumer complains and they throw it away before closing time and they would store it somewere before that.

  15. They do - everytime they close. I saw a programme on TV and the foods they throw out is amazing - most of it due to damaged packaging. However, you will find their bins are usually locked and secured. If you were caught it would be trespassing and theft.

  16. its now all locked away securely and not thrown out in public

  17. Planning your homeless life Tina, are you?

If you got it sorted LET ME KNOW

  18. some supermarkets give away their bread to local schools in the morning.

    around 8 to 10 oclock.

  19. i think there are people who go to get the stuff supermarkets chuck out...theyre called free somthin...dammit i cnt remebr sorry
