Question:

Do tanning solon lotions really protect your skin?

It's summer and I'm still pale because of my work hours; I don't have a lot of time to lay in the sun and get a natural tan. I've tried selt tanning moisturizers but it ends up peeling off within a day, leaving me with weird tan streaks. I used to use tanning beds without skin protection. About a year ago I had a mole removed and it was pre-cancerous, but it could have been from the sun, since I used to spend a lot of time outdoors. I've started using tanning beds again, but now I apply an SPF 15 lotion beforehand. The guy at the salon told me today that I shouldn't use sun protection in the tanning beds. He told me that their lotions help build and keep your tan, and they protect your skin. Is he telling the truth or is he just trying to get me to buy their product? Either way, does anyone have any tanning alternatives? And please don't answer with "you should learn to love your natural color"

  1. you shouldnt use outdoor lotion in the sunbeds i dont no why but if you read the booklets its says not too

and if i had a pre-cancerous mole removed i wouldnt even go near a sunbed you fool

  2. He is lying.  All he is trying to do is to sell their stuff at inflated prices, when it probably is the same old sunscreen you can get in the supermarket for one-quarter the price.  But since sunscreen is an ultra-violet inhibitor, use of this will diminish the tanning effect of the ultra-violet, which sort of defeats the purpose if you want a nice deep tan that in a few years will break out into massive skin cancer.  Ultra-violet, whether from the sun, a sun lamp, or a tanning bed is all bad for you in the long run.

You should stay out of the sun as much as possible and as far away from a tanning bed as possible.  Learn to love your natural color, unless you want to end up with deep wrinkles, bags on your face, and skin cancer.

  3. Well, the only way to get tan fast is by going to a tanning salon, so I can't really help you with that...

And the whole point of tanning lotion is to help you tan at a faster rate, meaning it attracts more sunlight. It wont protect your skin at all...the guy is simply trying to be a good salesman.

Maybe you could use those new "Jergens Natural Glow" lotion...
