Do tarantulas live in Virginia?

  2. No.  You might see wolf and funnel-web spiders, and some of them can look like small tarantulas, but they aren't tarantulas.

  3. If you want to see tarantulas, go to Mt. Diablo in Contra Costa County in the San Francisco Bay Area.  During September every square foot of the mountain has male tarantulas looking for females (who are in their holes) during the mating season.

    Incredible number of Tarantulas.

    Harmless.  

    But be careful there are also black widow spiders that hang around the picnic tables.

    I've never seen Tarantulas in Virginia and I live there, near Mt. Rogers, during part of the summer.  Saw a Copperhead Snake.  I never realized that an adult Copperhead was only about 18 inches long.
