  1. Of course they do. Just with any other job people will talk about after a hard day's work

  2. we all have our thoughts...and pupils that we can relate to...b ut other than that - we have better thngs to do...like mark the mountains of work you guys seem to breed!!! - then again...we are the ones that set it!!!

  3. Teachers should not have favourite pupils.  How can you teach children fairly if you show you like some more than others?

The reverse is that teachers should try not to dislike pupils.

Of course I  bet we have all sighed with relief when discovering that secondary school pupil x was absent !!!!!!!!!

  4. Actually, any teacher who is a professional and cares about their reputation won't say negative things about a student whilst around colleagues.

Yes, teachers may say " Sophie is a treasure to teach, always listening and participating. "

They may also say " Make sure you keep an eye on Dave, he is usually not paying attention to the demonstration. "

Saying that, I have been to some schools where teachers will openly discuss their students in a negative way, I actually think it is disgusting and I leave the room when they do.

  5. my m8 is a bothin proper teacher pet so yes they do all they go on bout is how good iz at lessonz

  6. Of course we do!!! We are only human so we are bound to have some students who we enjoy working with more than others and  on the other hand students who drive us up the wall. Professionalism means trying to treat them all fairly in class. Teaching is sometimes as lonely a job as being the proverbial lighthouse keeper, remember we spend the majority of our time working apart from our colleagues.

These sorts of conversations are great at bonding staff together and can be with wonderful intentions, for example a colleague and I share lifts and we often talk about ways to help a favourite student who is lovely but not as bright as some of his friends. We talk about options for him next year etc. It is also interesting to find out about how kids (all kinds of kids) behave in different classes as students who are no problem for me can be disruptive in other lessons and vice versa, this sort of talk enables us to offer support to colleagues, suggesting ways of managing that students behaviour from our experience. Teachers are often made to feel that they should keep quiet when they are having problems with students, but I think it is important to be able to admit to colleagues when youre finding things tough, a problem shared is a problem halved and all that. Behind closed doors you should be able to talk with complete honesty, I see no reason why that should cause the trainee teacher to be disgusted.

  7. Our teachers say it in the middle of class! It's very unprofessional. If you are a teacher, you shouldn't even think about who your favorite is. There is no point, and even if you know you won't change your attitude towards him, you will.

  8. I think they do because my biology teacher used to tell us how she would go and tell her friends about us. She would even make jokes about the things that she told them. I was in an after school program with her and that's where she told us about the things she said and how her friends reacted.

  9. Yes, we talk about our favorites and conversely the ones who irritate us too.

  10. Of course they do!!! I still talk about my favourite pupils now from years ago!

  11. They show who their favourite student is in class. If two people put their hands up at the same time, the teacher will go to the favourite student and spend more time with them. When I was at school, the teachers used to ask their favourite students to help them with stuff and used to believe the sob stories about homework, whereas their least favourite students would get an automatic detention.

  12. Well when I was a student at school I talked with my friends who my favorite teachers where and my worst teachers so I could imagination they do.

  13. Yes. We do. Most teachers prefer students who try hard, participate appropriately, and are polite. These students are not necessarily the smartest students in class.

With good teachers students never know who the favorites are.

  14. We are more likely to need to vent about students who frustrate us.  Sometimes a student can get you so irritated it is hard not to take it out on the rest of the class or on the next class.  So some teachers will vent to the other teachers at lunch or between classes.  It helps get the frustration out so we can go back in and be calm with our next class.

There are also times we want to share when a student has done something really good in our class so we might tell the other teachers so they can also praise the student.  It isn't really like choosing a favorite, just wanting to share when something good happens.

  15. i talk about who our worst and favourite teachers are with friends.

  16. yes of course they all chat have favorites,

its a lot less professional behind all closed doors

    when people are involved.
