Question:

Do teal and red and brown go together in a bedroom?

My designer is trying to convince me to paint my bedroom walls teal/aqua to go with my dark brown furniture and accent with red. I can't see it. Does anyone have pictures of something similar?

  1. This is a beautiful combination. I might opt for at least one wall not in teal - maybe a creamy white to soften the look, or if you are going for more of a sharp contrast go with a stark white. Looking at paint chips in your chosen colors might help you out - include a chip in the brown of your furniture as well. Check on-line for HGTV room designs - they might have something that comes close even if it's not a bedroom setup. Good luck and enjoy. LT

  2. the teal wouldn't work if it was a bright teal. it would have to be a more muted, organic type, like the teal bubbles here: http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images...

  3. I think these colors sound great together as long as the red is used sparingly.

Enlarge this pic to see the colors together:

Notice the red pillows on this bed:

Tell your decorator how you feel and he or she should be able to show you pics.  If you don't like it, tell her!

  4. Absolutely, but I would recommend a lighter color to balance, like a creamy off-white.  If you do the teal/aqua walls, then make them a lighter shade.

  5. If you look in magazines, sometimes the nicest rooms are of colors that you normally would not pick.  I can definately see the teal with the brown furniture, but I am not too sure about the red.  If you have a good designer though, they can make anything work, but if you don't like the red maybe you could try another color that isn't so dramatic, like maybe a green tone or even a yellow.

  6. hm...i wouldnt paint my wals teal...that color can become very outdated in little time. however, i would paint ONE wall a really rich cranberry red. that will make the room pop, and give it a more elegant feel. plus it will make the room seem bigger. accent with dark brown furniture and teal, chocolate and cranberry accesories. that way if you want to change it around you're not stuck with blue walls, but instead you have a less dated accent wall.

  7. Here is a cool looking bedroom...kind of what you wanted. It will look great. I've always wanted a blue and brown bedroom...i have yellow walls with accents of black red and white.

  8. It is hard to picture, but may actually look good. What it comes down to is YOUR taste. What may look beautiful to one person can be a disaster for another. It's all in your personal taste.

I would express your concern to your designer and ask if she has any examples or pictures you can go by. Another suggestion is playing with the link below....see how to 2 colors work together. If you don't like it, you can try other colors until something catches your eye.
