Do teenagers have a choice of which parent they would like to live with?

I am 14 years old, and my mother and I are hoping to be able to move out of the country by possibly 2010 or 2011.

The only problem is that my dad still would live in the same place. I don't think he would approve of us leaving the country, and I don't even want to live with him!

Do I have a choice at least by this age to decide whether I want to be with my mom or not? HELP!

  1. if you're matured enough to think of what is good for you why not? anyway you got the right to chose in your life. i think 16 yrs old its depend how clever you're and how you handle yourself and have enough confident to be indepent person. encouraged you're father lah .....maybe he will change his mind ok?

  2. yes 12 is the age a child can choose which parent he wants to reside with. and tell your dad this is nothing to hurt him it is natural children peferring to live with their mothers after all you were together for nine months before you entered this world. as long as your mother isn't a physo or drug dealer everything will be fine. and good luck. your a good man taking care of his mother. god loves you....

  3. YES IF YOU WANT TO GO WITH YOUR MOM TELL YOUR FATHER HOW YOU FEEL. TELL HIM WHY YOU WANT TO MOVE IF HE IS NOT SELFISH THEN HE'LL UNDERSTAND. TELL YOUR MOM HOW YOU FEEL FIRST MAYBE SHE'LL BACK YOU UP

  4. ummm your mom has to get physical custody if their getting divorced

  5. If you live in the US...

The court will consider your wishes. The court does not have to abide by your wishes.  In addition to your wishes, the court considers many other things too, and in this case one thing they will consider heavily is the fact that your mother wants to move you OUT OF THE COUNTRY.  Frankly, courts are not chomping at the bit to allow minors to be taken out of the country if the other parent is opposed to it.  The court may, or may not, allow it.
