Do teens with their permit need car insurance if their parents have USAA auto insurance?

  1. USAA will require that your name be added to the policy once you start driving whether it's on a permit or license.  They will likely require it once you reach driving age even if you don't yet have a permit or license.  If you're not licensed, you'll be listed as a "prohibited operator" meaning that there will be no insurance coverage in force if you operate any of their vehicles.


  2. You do not need to be listed on your parent's policy until you actually get your license.  

    You parents can verify this with a quick phone call to USAA

  3. All drivers need to be insured, it doesn't matter which insurance company your parents deal with.  Your parents can add you to their policy by calling their agent.
