  1. I have heard they work, but the room plays a large part.

You need the tv & speaker in the center of the room and symetrical walls to the L/R and have a back wall to bounce sounds off of.

Unless you have a small bedroom for your system, I suspect the single speaker solution wont sound as good as a set of inexpensive speakers and a sub.

But it is just my opinion so I could be wrong.  The yamaha speaker was reviewed and got a decent rating.

  2. If you are using it in a small family room, bedroom, den or for your kids. Use the speaker bar. Just about everyone of them out there has received favorable reviews.

If you are setting up your system in a larger room I recommend you use a regular 5.1 or 7.1 surround system.

  3. The yamaha one is decent in just about any room and is def the one to go with if your go that route. Your traditional 5.1 or6.1 or7.1 surround system will always sound better because the channels have a physical sepration. If its my money i would buy a decent 5.1 speaker system (look at the Klipsch and polk packages.) a nice sub (klipsch or velodyne) and a good reciver (Onkyo) from your local retailers. IN the end it may cost a little more but your results will be much!!!!! better
